What To Do When...

What to Do If You Find a Stray

Steps to help a lost pet find their way home

1

Secure & Photograph

Safely secure the animal, then take clear photos (face and full body). This helps identify the pet online.

2

Check Location

Inside Town of Creston: Contact Town Bylaw.

Outside Town (RDCK A, B, C): Call PAWS first before bringing the pet in.

3

Post to Social Media

Post to local social media groups with photos and details (location, date, sex, markings). No social media? Email us at pets@pawscreston.ca and we'll post for you.

4

Provide Safe Housing

If possible, provide temporary safe housing while searching for the owner. If urgent medical care is needed, take the pet to Creston Veterinary Hospital.

Microchip Scanning: When a pet arrives at PAWS, we scan for microchips and contact the owner if found. Keep your pet's chip info updated!

1

Search Your Neighborhood

Walk your area calling your pet's name. Check hiding spots, neighbors' yards, and nearby parks. Bring treats or their favorite toy.

Inside Town Limits: Also contact Town of Creston Bylaw.

Pet Identification

An ID tag or microchip can be a lost pet's ticket home. Make sure your pet has proper identification with current contact information.
