What's Included with Your PAWS Adoption

Every pet adopted from PAWS comes fully prepared for their new home

At PAWS, our mission is to find loving homes for every animal in our care. When you adopt from us, your new pet will have had:

Veterinary Health Check

Complete examination by a licensed vet

Vaccinations

At least one round of shots to protect your pet

Spayed/Neutered

Fixed if old enough, voucher provided if not

If your pet's spay or neuter is planned for after adoption because they're too young, you'll receive a voucher to help offset the cost of the procedure.

14-Day Trial Period

We want to make sure it's the perfect match for both you and your new pet

We know that sometimes a pet doesn't settle into their new environment the way you thought they would, or the pet isn't what you expected. Sometimes it's just not a good fit. It's not the pet's fault or your fault - it's just the way it is.

Like many organizations, we offer a 2-week trial period to ensure it's a good fit for everyone. During the trial, we urge you to speak with our cat or dog director if you need advice, tips, or support.

We'd rather work through any rough spots with you and help resolve them, rather than have the pet returned. However, if the pet has to come back, they are always welcome back.

Some people will choose another pet that they think might be a good fit. Sometimes, the pet owner realises they aren't ready for a pet. Either way, we're here to support you!

The 3-3-3 Rule

Understanding your pet's adjustment period

3

3 Days

Your new pet may be overwhelmed and unsure of their new surroundings. Allow them to decompress and settle in at their own pace, giving them a calm and safe environment.

3

3 Weeks

Your pet will start to show their true personality and become more comfortable with their new home and routine. Begin gentle socialization and training, focusing on positive reinforcement.

3

3 Months

Your pet should be fully settled and comfortable in their new home. They should have a sense of security and trust in you, and you can continue building upon their socialization and training.

Things to Remember:

Individual Differences:

Every pet is different, and the 3-3-3 rule is just a general guideline. Some pets may adjust faster or slower than others.

Patience and Understanding:

Be patient during this transition period. Allow your pet to adjust at their own pace and don't force interactions.

Positive Reinforcement:

Focus on positive reinforcement when training and socializing your pet. This helps build trust and create a positive bond.

Get Professional Help:

If your pet is having trouble adjusting or you're concerned about their behaviour, speak with your veterinarian or a qualified trainer.
